be a hot dance-uh

the humidity's gone to my head... and hair.

sure enough, we are barreling towards summer, folks.  in just over another week all will be considerably more quiet on the western (read: northern) front of campus.  so so so looking forward to it.

semester three's been a lot easier than the last two and has turned out to be a fantastic step up from the fall.  i am settled into my space and ready to start refining skills and streamlining processes.  it's become essential to take good notes in the midst of seasonal tasks so that i don't forget what i did last year!

in the last month, we planned and then unplanned our wedding. finances being what they are, it didn't make sense for us to drain our savings accounts and live paycheck to paycheck for a year in order to have a true ceremony and reception, albeit, within our range of $5,000 - $8,000.  we are, therefore, scaling way down and not doing most of the things that would mark the day as an event. it'll just be another dinner with a small group of friends and loved ones.  this is what we both wanted but felt like we couldn't do for fear of pissing people off, but that is more than likely a misplaced worry anyway.

holding onto all of the stress of balancing my life between bill payments and a one-day event really ate at my confidence.  there was not a lot of strutting, to be told, but there was a finality to the anxiety after we pulled the plug. what. a. relief! the more we thought about it, the more we realized that our wedding day shouldn't about the dressed-up aspects of the relationship we don't have.  juan and i both shrug off most attention.  having everyone around, a fancy dinner, and any of the usual pomp is really not our speed anyway.  why spend all that money on something that'll probably make me a nervous wreck.

so we are enjoying the slam on the reset button of expectations and responsibilities. it is so very nice.  i think, in the end, that spending a quiet day with juan and a few loved ones will be just the right thing for a most special day.

this week:  hella healthy smoothie and juice time!  i'm not a blender pro but we'll see if there's any difference by week's end.
