aigo! it's korean week!

annyeong hasaeyo! time for k-love.

i could have picked an easier language than korean for the semester-long language learning project for my ESLM class in spring 2014.  instead, i “went with my gut”.  always an overachiever over here.

whether it’s totally thanks to sun and jin from abc’s “lost” that i was intrigued or not, i was and still am.  there’s something about phonetic pronunciation that appeals to me and the hangul are pretty easy to remember (as there are only 24 of them).  memorizing hundreds of characters or a brand new alphabet is not my cup of tea right now, sorry japanese and greek, russian, etc.

even though i used too many apps last spring to keep the knowledge fresh, i found that youtube was much more helpful with the process of remembering basic phrases and phonemes.

if you’re interested in learning the hangul (which are the basic reading and writing structures of korean), try hana hana hangul, a web series from korean 101.

once you’ve mastered the sounds and can recognize each letter, move onto the KWOW videos for words of the week.  i’m still going through videos to pick up new phrases aigo!

so that’s that. keeping it short since there is a lot that i can’t adequately share through text.  stay warm at heart.

this week:  no cursing and no (read: limited) use of facebook for my annual attempt at lent-keeping.  why?  because i can!
